2025 Boundary Training
Dear Pastors, Commissioned Pastors and Churches,
As you may know, boundary training is now constitutionally required by the Book of Order every 36 months – and our Presbytery is overdue! So everyone needs this training, as it has not been offered in our presbytery in the last three years.
What is Boundary Training?
Boundary training is a combination of a few different concepts: appropriate boundaries with the opposite sex, with children, with the church, and with yourself. Boundaries can become blurred in the course of ministry, and training provides an opportunity for a reality check and to discuss these issues with peers.
We’re lucky to have the national moderator of Presbyterian Women, Pam Sydner, leading all 3 of our training events. Pam has decades of experience leading similar trainings.
Who is Required to Attend?
All pastors, churches, and commissioned pastors must complete this training. The Book of Order requires all members of Presbytery receive this training every 36 months. Churches are required to send a representative as well.
When and Where?
Boundary Training will only be offered at in person events in 2025. To make it easier to attend, the Cabinet is providing 3 separate locations across 2 days. Each event will last 2 hours, and of course you only need to attend 1 of the 3.
The schedule for trainings is:
November 10— First Presbyterian Church of Danville, from 9am – 11am
November 10— Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg from 1:30pm – 3:30pm
November 11— Northside Presbyterian Church, Blacksburg from 9:30am-11:30am
What if I absolutely, positively, cannot make it?
These will be the only trainings offered in 2025, so please make every effort to be at one of these trainings. If you need an excused absence, please contact Julie, and we’ll add you to a list for a future make up training some time in 2026.
